Dealing with Panic

Sometimes you would like to close a deal or complete a work to your satisfaction.  However, the situation may cause panic.  Professional tennis players are notorious as they try to close to an important match.  One of the sports educators says that there are 4 types of panic reaction a tennis player exhibits.

1. The Tank, in which the player gives up,

2. The Choke, in which the player feels nervous,

3. Anger, - in which the player loses his self-control and self-destroys,

4. Challenge, in which the player picks up confidence and determination and plays his best game.

You will also notice that the tennis players respond in the following ways to reach their target by way of coping:

a. Physical response :  Jumping up, bending, stretching and walking around.

b. Relaxation response :  Taking deep breaths, taking more time and relaxing.

c. Preparation response - Rehearsing next shot, anticipating what is likely to be the next ball, focussing eyes on the opponent's court.

d. Ritual response:  Moving to a predetermined position, swaying back and forth and awaiting for the next play.

Whether it is tennis, cricket or your office the above technique will be better than biting nails when faced with your next decision.
