Motion economy!

Movement is different form working. Our time is spent in doing various activities. Moving from one place to another consumes our time. It can also be a movement of the limb. Or it can be just mind wandering! All these movements cost your valuable time.

If you ask an industrial engineer, he will tell you what is a value adding activity and what is a cost adding activity. Every movement should be as a result of careful thinking and deliberation.  Wherever possible, use both the hands. For a long time we are used to using one hand only. Some of the Japanese management techniques stress this point. Take a look at your work area. Does it make you to do unnecessary movements such as bending, walking etc.? Consider who you can eliminate the same. Plan your work area in such a way that it is a 'work station'. Decide where should be your filing cabinet and where should be your side tray. As you end the day think as though you had been video covered and goes through the video carefully. Imagine you are a movies director and mentally edit all the 'actions' you may not need and re-shoot the sequence!

Do it today and you will discover a treasure pot!
